CHINESE INVESTORS INTERESTED IN FOREST POTENTIALS OF POHUWATU
Gorontalo, Aug 26 (ANTARA) - Chinese investors are still interested in investment in Pohuwatu regency, Gorontalo province, especially in non-timber roducts.
Djoni Nento, Pohuwatu Forestry Agency chief said that the non-timber potentials are starting drawing the attention of Chinese investors.
"Previously, Chinese investors were interested in gold mines in Pohuwatu," Nento said on Wednesday.
The Chinese serious interest was indicated in their invitation to the Pohuwatu Forestry Agency to participate in a non-timber forest cultivation development workshop in Zhejiang province, China, from August 27 to September 16, 2009.
He said that Pohuwato is the only province in Gorontalo which had been invited, besides the Forestry Ministry.
One of the reasons of the Chinese keen interest in Pohuwatu is because the regency is very potential in its non-timber sector.
"Almost every forested land in Pohuwatu promising for investatment," Nento said.
He said that the cooperation with the Chinese side is focused on resin cultivation, honey and many more sectors which are non-timber sectors which have yet to be managed optimally.
"Forestry products such as resin and honey are posing promising business opportunities of cooperation between China and Gorontalo," Nento said.
The increasing number of investors coming to Pohuwatu is a sign that the regional administration's programs are effective in drawing foreign investors. **2***
