Juba - August 27, 2009 (WAM) - Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital has embarked on dispatching specialised medical teams to remote areas in coordination with the Ministry of Health in South Sudan to provide diagnostic, curative, preventive and medical awareness services to the needy patients, particularly children and elderly people under supervision of joint UAE-Sudanese-International team, including medical, nursing, technical and administrative cadres.
Emirati Heart Surgeon, Chief Executive of Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital, Executive Director of the Zayed Charity Initiative Dr Adel Al Shamri, has emphasised the significance of the medical and awareness campaign, which serve the most vulnerable categories; children and elderly people, adding that the medical team diagnose the patients, prescribe and issue medicines free to them.
He told Emirates News Agency (WAM) in a statement that 'the medical team educates different categories of community about common diseases and ways to treat or prevent them, particularly the communicable and chronic diseases'.
Al Shamri underscored that the medical and awareness teams simultaneously work to offer the curative, surgical and training services to local people daily in all specialisations, citing the heart, gastroenterological and respiratory diseases, emergency cases, laboratory and pharmacy services as well.
Dr Maker Isaac, Medical Director of Juba Teaching Hospital, said the medical teams of Emirates mobile hospital reach out to the remote areas, where they provide the medical services to the greater number of patients, adding that the medical teams include joint UAE-Sudanese-International doctors, who work jointly to serve the patients in line with the strategies to cover greater geographical areas.
Dr Juan Carlos Chachaqas, Medical Director of Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital, said that the medical teams include over 24 medical and administrative cadres tasked to take part in the medical and awareness campaign, adding that they have been assigned to reach out many areas to provide medical services to greater number of children and elderly patients, stressing the significance of the awareness and preventive programmes, which focus on life style and unhealthy habits in order to achieve healthy and productive community.
On his part, Dr Jameel Mohammed Wahdani, family physician of Emirates Mobile Hospital, said that the medical teams were equipped with the latest mobile diagnostic, echocardiography, electrical jolt system and other devices, which help the medical teams to early diagnose diseases to avoid future complications. He added cases that require further clinical and laboratory check-ups will be referred to the mobile hospital centre, where they will receive the best medical services as per world class standards.
Patients were upbeat about the medical services they received. Tipo Isaac, a worker, said the medical teams were exerting efforts to provide distinguished healthcare services to them in their areas without incurring transport, diagnosis or treatment charges.
Wani Fegira, an employee, said, "these medical teams spare the charges, which we used to incur when we go to out clinics or hospitals due to high prices of the medical services here. Hence, such medical teams play pivotal role that is tangibly felt by the needy categories". Another employee, Anina Laku, said the medical team provides us free diagnosis and treatment that we cannot dream to afford.
The medical teams lauded the efforts of ministry of Health and Sudanese doctors for providing the logistical support and solving all difficulties, which could have hindered the efforts of mobile hospital.
The Emirates mobile hospital, the first mobile civilian hospital in the world, is currently providing its medical services to the needy categories in South Sudan in the first phase to be followed by Morocco and Lebanon respectively. Equipped with elite of specialist doctors and medical technicians, the strategic plan of the mobile hospital will extend for three years in which the medical services will be served four months in each country. 32 Emirati doctors and 16 Emirati nurses will take part in the medical programme, as well as similar number from friendly and hosting countries.
The mobile hospital is a success model of partnership among public institutions, private corporations and non profitable organisations to implant culture of charity and provide world class medical services.
