Ex-abductee Hasuike wins nonfiction award+

TOKYO, Aug. 27 Kyodo -
Repatriated abductee Kaoru Hasuike won an award Thursday for a nonfiction work
that features his experience of being abducted to North Korea and living in the
reclusive country.

Hasuike received the award sponsored by Shinchosha Publishing Co. and 1 million
yen in prize money for a collection of pieces he has posted on Internet blogs
and elsewhere based on his memories of his 1978 abduction as well as his visit
to South Korea last year.
Hasuike went missing along with his girlfriend, Yukiko Okudo, in Niigata
Prefecture in July 1978. Married in North Korea, they returned to Japan in
October 2002 after North Korea admitted to the past abductions of Japanese
citizens.
