POLICE NAME MUHAMAD JIBRIL TERRORISM SUSPECT

Jakarta, Aug 28 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian police said here on Friday, Muhamad Jibril, a man they arrested in Tangerang last August 25, was a terrorism suspect.

"Based on the results of our investigation we know "X" including Jibril as suspects," National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said.

The suspect received the status following the investigation of the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotel bombings in Jakarta last month.

Bambang Hendarso did not tell what he meant by "X" but implicitly meant there were other suspects besides Jibril.

He said, before making Jibril's suspected involvement known to the public on August 25, the police had already conducted search for several days but failed to find him.

Because of that the police had put him in their wanted list to narrow his freedom of movement.

By putting him on their wanted list the police hoped the community would help find him, he said.

To locate Jibril, he said , the police had deployed a team led directly by the deputy chief of the police anti-terror unit Densus 88, Senior Commissioner Tito Karnavian.

Bambang Hendarso said he was ready to face any legal complaint in connection with Jibril's arrest.

"Just go ahead with the filing. It is any person's right to do it," he said referring to Jibril's family that had filed the complaint at the South Jakarta district court.

The effort aimed at seeking a pre-trial of the case could even be used as a tool to control police actions, he said.

"It is legitimate. Every citizen has a right to file it," he said.

He said it would be the judge that would determine whether or not the arrest was against the law.

Bambang Hendarso pledged he would explain about Jibril's involvement in the case to the public after his investigation was completed namely seven days after his arrest.

"We will explain about it later. Let us process it first," he said.

The police declared Mohamad Jibril alias Muhammad Ricky Ardhan alias Ricky Ardhan bin Muhammad Iqbal bin Abu Djibril as a wanted person on August 25.

According to police records, Mohamad Jibril was born in Banjarmasin but in other documents he was recorded as being born in East Lombok on May 28, 1989.

Jibril had been wanted for his alleged role in channeling funds from abroad to Indonesia which were later used to finance bombings.

Two hours after he was declared wanted Jibril was arrested in Pamulang, Tangerang.

In the hotel bombings case the police have also arrested three other suspects namely Indra, Aris ad Ahmad Fery.

Two other suspects namely Air Setiawan and Eko Joko were killed during a raid in a house in Jatiasih, Bekasi, on August 8.

The hotel bombings left nine people dead including the two suicide bombers namely Nana Ichwan Maulana and Dani Dwi Permana.

The police meanwhile are still searching four other suspects namely Dyaifuin Zuhri bin Djaelani Irsyad alias Udin alias Soleh, Ario Sudarso alias Suparjo Dwo Anggoro alias Aji alias Dayat alias Mistam Usamudin, Bagus Budi Pranoto alias Urwah and Mohamd Syahrir.
