YOUTH ASSOCIATIONS IN MALAYSIA ENHANCED UNDER NEW LAW
KANGAR (Malaysia), Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The Youth Associations and Youth
Development Act 2007, which came into force this year, will not adversely affect
youth associations, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Razali Ibrahim said
Saturday.
He said implementation of the law, which included the requirement for
leaders of youth associations to not be over 40 years old, would further
strengthen youth organisations in the country when all youth associations were
registered with the Registrar of Youth Societies (ROY).
All youth associations were required to register with the Registrar of Youth
Societies to facilitate monitoring of their activities and financial management,
he told reporters near here, the capital of northern state Perlis, Friday night.
He was responding to a statement by former Youth Movement vice-president
Faisal Abdullah that the movement would die if no effort was made to recruit new
members.
Razali said most of the 3,7000 youth associations in the country which were
previously registered with the Registrar of Societies had registered with ROY.
He advised those which had yet to register with the ROY to do so to be
eligible for the ministry's assistance.
