"SPIDERMAN" FINED US$566 FOR CLIMBING PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- French climber Alain Robert, dubbed
"Spiderman", was fined RM2,000 (about US$566) by the Magistrate's Court here
Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to committing criminal trespass by climbing
the Petronas Twin Towers.

The Petronas Twin Towers (also known as the Petronas Towers or just Twin
Towers), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are twin towers and were the world's tallest
buildings before being surpassed by Taipei 101.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mokhtarudin ordered him to serve two months in jail
if he failed to pay the fine.

Robert, 46, who took two hours to climb tower two of the Petronas Twin
Towers in Jalan Ampang, paid the fine.

He admitted committing the offence at 8.30am Tuesday.

The charge under section 447 of the Penal Code carries a maximum six months
jail or RM3,000 (US$847) fine, of both, on conviction.

In mitigation, his counsel, Wong Kian Kheong, asked the court to fine his
client RM2,000 and not send him to jail, saying that Robert would be returning
to Paris on Monday to meet his three children and promised not to climb any more
buildings.

Robert only smiled and said: "I Love Malaysia, Thank You Malaysia, climbing
activity is my passion, my life and my drug", after his release.
