IRANIAN UNIVERSITY TO INTRODUCE MALAY LANGUAGE STUDIES
PENANG (Malaysia), Sept 2 (Bernama) – Islamic Azad University, Baft, Iran
plans to introduce the Malay Language studies with the cooperation of University
of Science, Malaysia (USM).
University of Science, Malaysia is a public university with its main campus
situated in Penang, Malaysia. There are two other branch campuses, one in
mainland Penang, and the other in Kelantan, on the East Coast of Peninsular
Malaysia.
This is aimed at helping Iranian students, who planned to pursue their
studies in Malaysia especially USM, to learn the language before leaving the
country, said Islamic Azad University president Dr Abolfazl Jafargholikhan.
He said the courses would conducted with the cooperation of USM School of
Languages, Literacies and Translation (SLLT).
Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of the
collaboration here Wednesday, he said the cooperation would be a stepping stone
for both universities to upgrade their courses holistically.
USM vice-chancellor Prof Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, who signed the MoU
on behalf of USM, said he hoped both universities would cooperate in the
publications of journals, joint research and exchange of experts.
He said USM SLLT was also conducting a joint research with Islamic Azad
University on the comparative use of English in Malaysia and Iran which would be
completed next year.
