OWN A TASER OR STUN GUN AND BE JAILED
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Those owning electro-shock taser and stun guns which can cause temporary paralysis to victims, are in for an 'after-shock'.
They can be jailed!
The warning comes from Criminal Investigation Department director Mohd Bakri
Mohd Zinin who described the taser and stun weapons as being listed as scheduled
weapons.
In a statement here Wednesday, he said many were unaware that they were
listed as scheduled weapons under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and
Offensive Weapons Act.
He said, offenders were liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two
years or a RM2,000 (US$564.60) fine, or both.
Mohd Bakri noted that of late, concerns were raised over the public's easy
access to taser and stun guns as it raised a number of security issues.
The public must realise that it was illegal to own them, he added.
"Stringent checks will be conducted at premises suspected of selling these
weapons and any person found selling them will be dealt with under the act," he
said.
