Sony to market 3D capable LCD TVs, Blu-ray disc players in 2010

TOKYO, Sept. 3 Kyodo -
Sony Corp. said Thursday that it will market liquid crystal display TVs and
Blu-ray disc players capable of showing three-dimensional images next year.
Sony's debut on the consumer 3D audiovisual equipment market is expected to
intensify competition in the field amid the popularity of 3D films screened in
Japan and other countries including the United States, analysts say.
The company said 3D compatible PlayStation 3 game consoles and Vaio computers
are also on the way.
On Wednesday in Berlin, Howard Stringer, Sony's chief executive officer and
chairman, told a press conference the company is planning a major push into the
3D electronics market.
Details such as the exact dates of new product releases and prices have yet to
be decided, according to the company.
Among major Japanese consumer electronics makers, Panasonic Corp. said earlier
it will market 3D plasma TVs and Blu-ray disc players next year.
