Cleaning of Nura River
Karaganda, September 04 2009, Khabar - The government controls the large-scale project on cleaning of Nura river from mercury-containing soil. The republican budget and International bank for reconstruction and development allocated over 97 million tenge for realization of this project. Storage of utilized wastes was built for this sum of money and it can store about 2 million tons of bad soil. Now the storage is full for the third part and toxins can’t leak. Umirzak Shukeyev, first deputy prime minister of RK has made certain that source of infection of environment is completely annihilated. “Karbid” plant polluted the nearby territory and river-bed of Nura with mercury for 40 years. At present the workshops of the plant are demolished and soil is utilized and 7 km of flood lands of river are cleaned. The same territory must be cleaned before the next May.

- In general, we plan to bury over 1,5 million tons of mercury-containing soil. This project aims to protect environment, take care of health of people and animals and whole ecological situation of Central Kazakhstan.
