Interaction 2009

Almaty, September 04 2009, Khabar - Kazakhstan’s armed forces are now preparing for the CIS’s largest ever joint tactical exercises called Interaction 2009. The active phase of the event is to be held on the 14th of October on the Matybulak firing range near the Gvardeiskiy garrison. The exercises are expected to feature military units from 7 member-states of the Collective Security Treaty. The Presidents of those states are to witness war games there. The training scenario consists of 4 stages. The first one will involve military aviation 70% of which will be Kazakhstan’s aircraft. The Russian armed forces will be represented by a Tupolev 22-M strategic bomber.

Mukhtar Altynbayev, chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff of RK:
- Since we are part of the Collective Security Treaty, we need to have some corresponding power to rapidly respond to challenges. The Collective Rapid Response Forces are designed to protect any of the Collective Security Treaty member-states. We need to unite our efforts to fight against our enemies to protect our borders. We should also be ready for any events such as terrorist acts, drug trafficking and so on.

The second and the third phases of the exercises will be made up of land operations. The 4th one will see the Emergency Ministry and Police in action. The landing of armoured machinery and an emergency ministry mobile hospital is to become the most spectacular part of the event.

Mukhtar Altynbayev, chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff of RK:
- The tactical exercises will be witnessed by the Presidents of the participating countries. For the first time we will see 7 Presidents and 7 Defence Ministers at such tactical exercises. We have seen so many ministers here but we haven’t yet seen so many heads of states though.

The Interaction 2009 tactical exercises will become the first practical event held as part of the Collective Rapid Response Forces.
