CHINA-ASEAN EXPO SEES TREMENDOUS RESPONSE
By Vincent Low
BEIJING, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The forthcoming 6th China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO) in October is expected to add another 600 booths in view of the overwhelming response for its, said Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Vice Chairman, Chen Wu.
He said the expo would be also extended to another day.
There has been a vast increase in the number of registered buyers and
exhibitors despite the ongoing global financial crisis, he said.
"Participants from both China and ASEAN countries had been overwhelming.
Todate, the number of registered participants has exceeded the 4,000 booths
provided, by 15 per cent.
"We have to add more booths and extend the exhibition duration simply
because the demand is there," Chen said at a press conference held in the State
Council information office here Monday.
The 6th CAEXPO would take place from October 20-24 in Nanning, the capital
city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with the China-ASEAN Business and
Investment Summit(CABIS) from October 20-21.
Since 2004, the CAEXPO has been concluded with great success.
Driven by the full support of governments of China, the 10 ASEAN Association
of South East Asian Nations) countries and backed by the huge market and
favourable policies of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA), the CAEXPO has
gained positive comments from both the political and business communities of
China and ASEAN.
Today it is a superb platform for bilateral cooperation in the fields of
trade, investment and tourism, Chen said.
Numerous seminars and forums will be also held in conjunction with this
year's CAEXPO, with the cooperation of the Customs, agriculture, business and
financial sectors.
It has been touted as the event where government officials and corporate
leaders from China and ASEAN countries could share their thoughts to counter the
global economic crisis.
"While the financial crisis had affected exhibitions, commodities and
investments sectors, we still need to expand regional cooperation to counter the
crisis. To China and ASEAN, the CAEXPO is an important platform to promote
cooperation and reduce the impact of the crisis," Chen said.
Meanwhile, China Trade Promotion Board deputy chairman Dong Songgen said,
the 6th CABIS' theme of "China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and ASEAN Integration:
Cooperation for Mutual Development" was timely and appropriate with the
China-ASEAN Free Trade Area to be established in 2010.
With the signing of the Hua Hin Declaration on the Roadmap of the ASEAN
Community (2009-2015) in March, ASEAN is now on fast track to materialise the
objective, he said.
This year's summit will have two seminars including the Vietnam Government
Official and China-Vietnam Corporate CEO Round Table Talk and the 'Open Market
and New Business Opportunity' seminar.
Two other events will also be covered during the summit, namely the 10+1
Corporate Leaders Special Interviews on October 20 and the 7th China-ASEAN
Business Council Meeting on October 21.
