PAKISTAN KEENS TO COOPERATE ON HALAL INDUSTRY

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Pakistan is interested to cooperate with
the Halal Industry Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (HDC) to tap the growing
halal products business which is expected to achieve double-digit growth every
five years.

The Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Lt. General (Retired) Tahir
Mahmud Qazi said the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of Punjab,
has extended an invitation to HDC to visit its world class halal paraphernalia
being set established in the country.

The department has also invited HDC to adopt a mutually beneficial joint
strategy to capture the global halal food market estimated at US$1.3 trillion,
he said in a statement Tuesday.

" The meeting would provide a unique opportunity to evaluate each other's
strengths and to evolve a common strategy to tap the growing market for halal
products around the world," Tahir said.

He said Malaysian expertise in Halal food technology and Halal certification
authority coupled with Pakistan's raw material like meat, milk, poultry, and
food grain can garner a bigger share in the international market.

Pakistan announced a 50 per cent subsidy to enable its businessmen and
producers to explore the huge potential of the halal market.
