Vangthong Night Plaza opened for public

(KPL) A new round-the-clock service market, named Vientiane 450th anniversary Market or Vangthong Night Plaza, was officially inaugurated in Vientiane Capital yesterday.
The market is located at Thongkhankham village, Chanthaboury district, Vientiane Capital, behind the old national stadium.
Taking part in the inauguration were Deputy Vientiane Mayor Bounchanh Sinthavong, Vientiane high-ranking officials and Vientiane residents.
The construction of the Vangthong Night Plaza is one out of many priority projects under the Vientiane Capital’s campaign to keep Vientiane clean and orderly.
This is part of the Government’s attempts to support the Vientiane socio-economic development, which tends to move upwards rapidly. The night plaza is a joint venture of local businesspeople of four main stockholders. Most of them are major gold dealers in the Shopping Mall “Talat Sao” (morning) Market.
Mr Phouvong Phamisith, Director of the Vientiane 450th anniversary Market, said that the construction of the market, built on 18,000 metre squares, consisting of six two-storey buildings in Lao style design, cost 25 billion kip.
The first to third buildings will offer handicraft products, organic vegetables, souvenirs, silvers, gold and jewellery items. Most of them are made by Lao people. The fourth and fifth ones will be for sport gears, clothes, shoes and cosmetics. And the last one serves food.
In addition, this market will offer comprehensive services for Vientiane residents and visitors, including traditional art performance on show every day.
