UMNO YOUTHS HAND PETITION TO RI EMBASSY
Kuala Lumpur, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - Some ten UMNO (United Malay National Organization) youths came to the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur to submit a petition asking the Indonesian government to deal with the unruly demonstrators, and continue promoting the good relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Some ten UMNO youths came to the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur Friday afternoon, unfurl posters reading "Jalur Gemilang Maruah Kami", which means that the Malaysian flag is the self-respect of the Malaysian people.
The unfurling of the poster lasted only several seconds to give a chance to reporters to take pictures, then they folded back the poster and sent the delegates, Ahmad Zaki Zahid and Abdul Razak, to enter the embassy to submit their petition.
The petition was handed over by Ahmad Zaki to minister counsellor for information, social and cultural affairs Widyarka Ryananta and held a dialogue. Widyarka made a promise to the UMNO delegate that he will hand the petition to the Indonesian government.
The petition expressed the UMNO youths' wish for maintaining the close friendship between Indonesia and Malaysia, but still look at the current tension as a serious matter.
The petition also asked the Indonesian government to take firm action against people who had been trying to ruin the close friendship between the two neighboring countries.
The UMNO youghs also asked the Indonesian press to stop their provocations which would ruin the good relations between the two countries.
They also wished for an expansion of the current dialogs to include political parties, non-governmental organizations, businessmen, intellectuals, and student activists.
