ACEH SENDS ORANGUTAN TO QUARANTINE IN N SUMATRA

Banda Aceh, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - An orangutan which had been under medical treatment at Aceh's Nature Conservation Agency (BKSDA), has been sent to North Sumatra for a health examination and quarantine, an official said.

The female orangutan, aged about two years, was sent on Friday evening to North Sumatra, Rachmat of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program, said here on Friday.

Rachmat said during the health examinations, the orangutan would undergo an X-ray, blood test, anti-body test and a chip identity implantation.

"The quarantine will take at least 30 days. After the quarantine, the orangutan will be released in Jantho Park, Aceh Besar district," he said.
