Integration of Kazakh culture into Western community
Cambridge, September 12 2009, Khabar - “Role of historical and cultural heritage in dialogue of civilizations East-West” has been opened in famous Cambridge University. The main themes are Kazakh ethnos and Kazakhstan. Several tens of Kazakhstani students study at Cambridge University according to Bolashak program and that’s why international conference is held here. Professor, doctor Siddharth Saxena, chairman of scientific and analytical center says scientists of the forum managed to collect many unique materials about history and culture of Kazakhstan during 13 years. Some of those materials were presented during this conference. Reports about medieval commercial contacts of Large Middle Asia with Eastern Europe, researches on Mongolian Steppe Empire and topics connected with expeditions of famous Western travelers into Central Asia caused a great interest.
Siddharth Saxena, chairman of Central Asian forum of Cambridge University:
- We saw how Kazakhstan developed all these years and became one of most progressive countries of the world. In issues of dialogue of civilizations your country is considered to be a unique example of peaceful coexistence of many nations and cultures. You managed to unite people living on the territory of country into one nation. Most European states can’t boast of such achievements.
Most scientists think coming chairing of Kazakhstan in OSCE will become one of crucial moments in many-century dialogue of East and West. An American Judith Korbas thinks leadership of Asian state in authoritative European organization will become the obvious case of events in the world and it will change people’s notion about geo political balance of forces.
Yerlan Sairov, director of Institute of cultural policy and art studying under Ministry of Information and Culture of RK:
- Cambridge community is interested just in culture and social humanitarian processes that take place in Kazakhstan. We have to the conclusion that globalization mustn’t be one-sided but also there must be feedback.
The final actions of Kazakhstan’s week in London were held in Royal Asian Society with participation of famous UK and Kazakhstani scientists who are engaged into Central Asian searching. Memorandum on cooperation between Central Asian forum of Cambridge University and Kazakhstan’s scientific and research institutions was signed after the meetings. It is supposed to realize some projects such as work in archives of Western centers and holding of expeditions. And books of Kazakh authors will be kept in Cambridge library from now on. The books were gifted by the Institute of cultural policy and art studying under Ministry of Information and Culture of RK.
