BPK TO BE AUDITED BY PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT : LEGISLATOR

Jakarta, Sept 12 (ANTARA) - The Supreme Audit Board (BPK) will in the future be audited by a public accountant chosen by the House of Representatives (DPR), a House member said.

"We have held a meeting about state budget management and decided that the BPK will be audited by a public accountant nominated by the finance minister and BPK but chosen by the House," vice chairman of the House's Commission XI , Walman Siahaan, said here on Friday.

He said the BPK would continue to function as the state's main financial investigator but to avoid conflicts of interest the board itself must be audited by another party, in this case, a public accountant.

The House held fit-and-proper tests to select new BPK members September 7-11, 2009. Some 47 candidates took the tests but only seven passed.

The seven are Hasan Bisri (former BPK member), Hadi Purnomo (former Directorate General of Tax from Ministry of Finance), Gunawan Sidauruk (Chief of BPK's Representative Office in West Java), Rizal Djalil (member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives), Moermahadi Soerja Djayanegara (auditor from PT Dahana), Taufiqurrahman Ruki (former chief of KPK) and Dharma Bhakti (secretary general of BPK).

Commenting on the election of Rizal Djalil who was once summoned for questioning by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the chairman of House Commission XI, Ahmad Hafid Zamawi, said it was not a problem.

"We stick to existing laws. As long as the laws allow it, we will not consider it as problem," he said.

Rizal Djalil was chosen as a new BPK member after winning 32 House Commission XI votes, along with Gunawan Sidauruk. Meanwhile, Hasan Bisri got 44 votes, Hadi Poernomo 43, Moermahadi Soeja Djanegara 30, Taufiequrachman Ruki 27 and Dharmabhakti 26.***
