PT KAI GUARANTEES TICKETS FOR ALL HOME-BOUND TRAIN TRAVELERS
Jakarta, Sept 12 (ANTARA) - State owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) has guaranteed that all people intending to make their home-bound Idul Fitri journey this year by train will get a ticket.
"We have prepared all our infrastructure optimally. All travelers coming to railway stations will get a ticket," chief of public relations of PT KAI Operational I area, Sugeng Priyono, said here on Saturday.
He said PT KAI would provide additional trains to anticipate the expected eight-percent increase in the number of train travelers during this year's Idul Fitry holiday season.
In 2008, the number of people using trains for their Idul Fitri home-bound trips was more than 766,000 but this year the figure is predicted to reach 813,000.
"We consider this year's preparations optimal especially with 75 additional trains provided," Sugeng said adding that tickets for economy class were yet to be sold.
"We will start marketing economy class tickets by the on-the- spot system on September 15, 2009," he added.
For executive and business class sold online, Sugeng said, tickets are still available until the date of departure.
He said people did not need to worry about not getting a ticket because PT KAI had prepared 25 trips (50 trains for departures and arrivals each).
"The increase in the number of Idul Fitri train travelers this year is due to several factors, namely the increased number of Jakarta residents and also the unfriendly road conditions for travel by motorcycle," he said.
Sugeng said the fact that the economy-class ticket price had remained the same as a year ago was also among the reasons travelers would prefer to travel by train, although the ticket price for executive class had risen by 10 percent and that for business class by eight percent.
Sugeng also said Yogyakarta and Solo would still be the main destinations for home-bound people from the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) region.
Sugeng predicted the number of home bound Idul Fitri travelers at Gambir and Senen railway stations would peak on Friday (Sept 18) or three days before Idul Fitri. ***
