TANJUNG PRIOK TERMINAL PREPARING 50 ADDITIONAL BUSES FOR HOLIDAYS
Jakarta, Sept 12 (ANTARA) - Tanjung Priok bus terminal in North Jakarta is preparing 50 additional inter-city buses to cater for post-fasting month or Idul Fitri travelers, a terminal officer said.
ML Patikawa, chief of Group I of the Terminal, said here on Saturday the 50 additional buses would be made available in addition to the 150 buses which had been prepared to serve passengers bound for other cities in Java.
He said an increase in bus passengers was not yet seen on Saturday but he predicted their number would surge three or four days before Idul Fitri which falls on September 21 and 22, 2009.
Patikawa said that in the runup to the travelers' exodus, the terminal's authorities would tighten security measures. At least 40 police personnel would be deployed, with a health service team of 36 medical personnel, four ambulances and other officials.
He said that the number of passengers this year would be higher than last year because this year political parties no longer provided free buses for their cadres who wanted to go to their home towns or villages.
Home-bound travelers are expected to start their exodus next week, as the fasting month will end next Sunday, September 21, marking the start of the Idul Fitri holidays. ***
