CHINA COMMENDS MALAYSIA FOR R&D STRATEGY AND INNOVATION
DALIAN, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- China commended Malaysia for its investment
strategy in research and development (R&D) and focus on innovation driven
economy at the ongoing World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 being held here.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Maximus Johnity
Ongkili, who was invited to speak at two interactive sessions, shared with
fellow panelists and participants Malaysia's innovative approaches.
Dr Maximus set the context for the discussions on how new revolutions and
theories in science could impact on society, citing several new technologies
that have emerged in recent years.
The ministry said in a statement that the minister shared Malaysia's R&D
management strategies with the audience and stressed on the need to continue
support innovation especially during challenging economic periods.
The event in Dalian, held between Sept 10 and Sept 12, attracted more than
1,000 participants with eminent world leaders and Chief Executive Officers of
top business companies contributing their ideas in a series of interactive
sessions and workshops.
Themed, "Relaunching Growth", the event focused on public and private
partnerships necessary to transform and revitalise the global economy in order
to remain sustainable over the long term.
Dr Maximus also held strategic one-to-one meetings with the President,
Enterprise Mobility Solutions Motorola Inc, Eugene Delany, Chief Scientist, BT
Group, JP Rangaswami, Vice President, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, Phillip
Jiang, Senior Director and Head of IT for WEF, Alan Marcus and the Chief
Exective Officer of Smart Technologies, Nancy Knowlton.
Other events held during the forum included the Young Global leaders
Programme where Malaysia was represented by scientists, Dr Basyaruddin Abdul
Rahman from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Universiti
Malaya's Dr. Chan Yoke Fun.
