INDONESIA INTERESTED IN BUYING E-BOOK LAPTOP COMPUTERS FROM EAST COAST STATE

KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Sept 14 (Bernama)-- The Indonesian government
has shown interest in buying e-Book laptop computers from the Terengganu (an
east coast state in Peninsular Malaysia) government.

State Education, Higher Learning, Science, Technology and Human Resource
committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said manufacturer Top IT had been
asked to supply the e-Book laptop computers.

"We hope to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian
Education Ministry in Jakarta after Aidilfitri," he told reporters here Monday.

Other than Indonesia, Brunei also showed an interest in the laptop computer
but it was still at discussion stage.

Penang (northern state) and Melaka (southern state) were also interested in
the e-Book laptop computer which weighs less than one kilogramme.

Ahmad Razif said the Terengganu government could be proud as the e-Book
laptop computers had been recognised at home and also abroad.

"We have received permission from Intel to supply the e-Book laptop
computers to South-east Asia."

He however said that the state government's priority was to supply
Terengganu students with e-Book laptop computers.

A RM60 million (US$17.12 million) allocation had been set aside to supply
60,000 e-Book laptop computers to year five and year six students.

The Terengganu government spent RM30 million (US$8.56 million) on supplying
30,000 year five students with e-Book laptop computers last year.
