City cleaning campaign in Almaty

Almaty, September 14, 2009, Khabar - Almaty prepares for City Day. Officials, school children, students and beauty queens took part in city cleaning campaign. 5000 cubic meters of rubbish were taken out of city after 64 000 Almaty residents cleaned the city. The largest number of people cleaned district of Sairan lake. 1 500 sacks with rubbish were taken out of here after 1000 people cleaned Sairan. Students and deputies. officials of municipal administration and various enterprises worked here. This site turned into dump and participants of campaign complain saying that people will not stop littering despite holding of such city cleaning campaign. Toleukhan Ismailov, deputy head of department of architecture and city construction of Almaty says people must learn throwing rubbish into litter-bins and then city will become cleaner.

Marat Kesikbayev, deputy head of department of natural resources and regulation of nature using in Almaty:
- Currently 196 pieces of special equipment from juridical persons take part into city cleaning campaign. And about 200 pieces of machines were given by municipal services.

Participants of the contest “Miss Kazakhstan” also took brooms, rakes and shovels and tried to make the city more beautiful.

Veronika Koshmanova, vice miss Atyrau:
- If it is in my power, I would hold city cleaning every Saturday because cleanness is the main for me.

Students and pupils cleaned not only yards and streets but also the classrooms and cabinets. Over 100 000 city residents supported the campaign by the evening.
