Anniversary of “Kazgidromet”
Almaty, September 14, 2009, Khabar - One of the oldest hydro meteorological stations in Almaty is to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Kazakhstan has established scientific observations of nature in the 19th century, when the astronomer from St. Petersburg, Aleksandr Golubev, defined coordinates of the most important geographical features of Semirechye and plotted the Vernyi fortress on the world map. The station itself has been changing its location for many times and moved to Almaty only at the beginning of the 20th century.
Kuanysh Bektemirov deputy head general of “Kazgidromet” RSE:
- Data of the station has been collected for 150 years. It is very valuable information, with the help of which we are able to make forecasts. Observations are conducted every three hours. The maximum forecasted period may account for one month.
Weather forecasters are putting measurements on the map and then making a forecast. The similar work is underway on 258 stations all over the country.
Nadezhda Gagulina, head of united hydrometeorological station:
“It is impossible to make a forecast using information of only one station. The bigger the number of meteorological stations, the more precise the forecast is.
Officials of Kazgidromet promised that in the near future meteorological service will be modernized. It is planned to introduce technologies of China, Finland, Poland, Russia, Germany and the USA. Weather forecasters promised that after the modernization, the reliability of forecasts will be almost 100%.
