“Kyorogly” opera visits Turkic states
Almaty, September 14, 2009, Khabar - Opera of Azerbaijani composer Uzeir Gadzhibekov “Kyorogly” was staged in Almaty at Abai State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet. 250 best artists from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Tatarstan and Bashkorstan play on the stage. The artists say they are always excited before performing. Soloist of Baku opera theater Gasan Enami Oliya will sing the main role.
Gasan Enami Oliya, honored artist of Azerbaijan:
- Today I will sing here for the first time. I will try to sing very well and I am very glad I take part into this project.
“Kyorogly” is the first modern Turkic opera that was already performed in Kyrgyzstan. TURKSOI, international fund on development of culture and art of Turkic people initiated this project. Dyusen Kaseinov, director of this fund says “Kyorogly” was selected for joint staging because warrior Kyorogly who led rebel against feudal lords, is hero of not Azeri and Turkish eposes. Prominent Kazakh kyuishi Dauletkerei even dedicated him one of his kyuis. The opera was staged in Turkish language and for the first time by several Turkic states.
Dyusen Kaseinov, director of International fund on development of culture and art of Turkic people:
- Listen today to the opera of Gadzhibekov and you will ask the question – why this opera wasn’t staged though it was written 70 years ago. And today’s staging demonstrates closing in cultures.
Musical leader of play is Rauf Abdullayev, people artist of Azerbaijan. Conductors are from Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, choreographer is from Turkey. Kazakhstani artists Gulzat Daurbayeva and Shakhimardan Abilov will sing the leading roles. But the artists don’t perform at homeland and give possibility to sing for foreign colleagues. That’s why Gasan Enami Oliya snag the role of Kyorogly and soloist from Bashkorstan snag the role of his beloved Nigyar. The artists say understood each other at once.

- The theme is common and that’s why we understood everything at once.
The author of opera is prominent Azerbaijani composer Uzeir Gadzhibekov and he wrote first Turkic opera “Leili and Mejnoon” and its 100th anniversary was celebrated last year. his last work, “Kyorogly” was ended in 1937 and staged in Baku at once. The author conducted the orchestra and the main role was performed by Byul-Byul, soloist of Baku theater and father of singer Polad Byul-Byul ogly. It will be not the only joint premiere of 76 theater season. It is planned to stage opera of Donicetti “Love drink” where Maira Muhamedkyzy will sing the main party. One more contract was signed with Yuri Grigorovich who already had staged several plays in Kazakhstan. They plan to perform “Rome and Juliet” ballet. And “Kyorogly” opera will be performed in Ankara and other Turkic states. On September 18 it will be staged in Baku, on birthday of Uzeir Gadzhibekov who would turn 124.
