Inspection of social objects in Kazakhstan
Astana, September 15, 2009 (Khabar) - Prime Minister instructed to inspect all social objects. Vladimir Bozhko, Minister for Emergency Situations of RK considers number of fire victims in Taldykorgan could be fewer if fire fighters had received a signal in time. All social objects are inspected now in the republic for fire safety. Karim Massimov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan has instructed the mayors to reveal during one week all establishments that are not protected from fire and take measures on elimination of all violations. Karim Massimov began his cabinet sitting in Astana by expressing his condolences to the families of those who died in these incidents. The Premier turned to his cabinet asking them to provide all the necessary medical and monetary assistance. A special government task force has already been formed under the President’s instruction. Deputy prime minister Serik Akhmetov has reported about some results of work of governmental commission.

- There were 78 people by the moment of fire beginning and fire service of Taldykorgan rescued 41 people, 10 are hospitalized, two are in reanimation in grave condition. Unfortunately 37 people died, they mainly were poisoned with carbon monoxide.
Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev, Minister of Healthcare of RK:
- Judicial and medical expertise was held, the suffered patients undergo necessary medical treatment and there are no problems with donors. Doctors from Taldykorgan and Almaty fight for life of two patients who are in very bad condition.
There are two version of the incident in Taldykorgan. According to the first one, the fire was caused by a cigarette being smoked in a bed while the second one alleges there was a short circuit in the building. Specialists have already announced the fire was not started deliberately.

- The building was inspected before and its owners had been asked to overcome the many shortcomings in its maintenance. Most of them were regarding the lack of fire alarms and the lack of firefighting equipment in general.
It also became known that a lot of educational and healthcare facilities in the Republic are in a similarly poor state. 26% of all hospitals and 38% of all schools in the country are still not equipped with automatic firefighting systems. According to Minister Vladimir Bozhko, such a state is the result of complicated budget financing. Karim Massimov asked the task force to make corresponding conclusions and to complete its work thoroughly to make sure all the victims get assistance.

- We can see such incidents happen quite often in the former Soviet states. It is time for us to look into the problem carefully as only the weak links break. The head of state is personally keeping an eye on this issue.
