Musharraf's admission: Krishna to raise issue with Hillary

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Against the backdrop of former
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's admission about
diversion of US military aid, External Affairs Minister of
India S M Krishna will convey India's concerns over the issue
to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when they meet in New
York on September 25.

Krishna, who will meet Clinton on the sidelines of the
UN General Assembly, is expected to tell Clinton that the US
should ensure that its military aid is not used by Pakistan in
a manner that would hurt India's interests.

The Minister is expected to underline that the
assistance should be properly monitored to prevent any
diversion and misuse by Pakistan, official sources said.

India has been maintaining that much of the military aid
that Pakistan gets from the US for fighting terrorism is
diverted to strengthen the Pakistani armed forces'
capabilities against this country.

The Indian contention has been confirmed by Musharraf
who admitted that American military equipment, received for
fighting the Taliban, has been diverted to strengthen defences
against India.

The US has already taken note of the revelations,
particularly the recent reports that Pakistan had modified
anti-ship Harpoon missiles to make them capable of attacking
land targets, apparently aimed at India.

State Department spokesman Ian Kelly on Tuesday said the
US had taken Musharraf's comments "seriously" even as he noted
that the "allegations were not specific". PTI
