Melbourne, Sept 16 (PTI) Victorian Police Wednesday
said it has launched investigations in to the circumstances
surrounding the racial attack against three Indians here, even
as the state Premier John Brumby said any violence was
"unacceptable".

Four days after the attack which made headlines in
India, Victorian Police dismissed the contention by relatives
of the victims that a group of 70 people attacked the three
Indians and said only four men were involved in the assault
and a group of up to 20 were bystanders.

"Four men had been involved in the actual assault and
a group of up to 20 had been bystanders," Acting Senior
Sergeant Glenn Parker was quoted as saying by 'The Age'.

Victorian Premier John Brumby, who will visit India
next week, said he would not comment on the latest incident,
but "that any violence, racially motivated or not, was
unacceptable."

"Some of the events of the past few months have
damaged our brand and the Australian brand in India and I can
only repeat that overall we remain one of the safest places in
the world," he said.

26-year-old Sukhdip Singh, who arrived here a month
ago on a spouse visa, his brother Gurdeep Singh and uncle
Mukhtair Singh were attacked by a group of Australians when
they were playing pool in a bar in Epping suburb on Saturday.
