Incredible India campaign gets UK award

London, Sep 16 (PTI) The Incredible India campaign,
showcasing India as a destination of choice for global
tourists, has won a rare UK award for the most creative media
campaign using ethnic imagery.

The 'GG2 Campaign of the Year' award was presented to
Jagdish Chander, Director, India tourist Office, UK and
Ireland, by Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime
Minister Tony Blair last night.
The incredible India campaign launched in 2002 was aimed
at drawing the discerning tourist to India. Since then the
eye-catching imagery has won awards and helped boost tourist
arrivals to the country, the citation said.
"The worldwide campaign showcased India as a destination
of choice for art aficionados, culture vultures, film buffs
and thrill seekers and spa lovers," it said.
Migrants have made huge contribution to the economy of
Britain and the country has gained considerably from its
policy of diversity, Tony Blair, who was Chief Guest at the
function noted.

"London could win the bid for 2012 Olympics mainly
because we projected London as a diverse city," he said.

Leading NRI industrialist, Lord Swraj Paul, Deputy Leader
of the Lib Dem in the House of Lords, Lord Navnit
Dholakia, Barry Gardiner(MP)and Rami Ranger (NRI entrepreneur)
were also present on the occasion.

Christopher Rajendran Hyman, an NRI and CEO of Serco
Group, a service company that deals in logistics and
people management from aviation to education, won the 'Garavi
Gujarat 2 (GG2) Man of the Year award 2009.' (More) PTI
