MALAYSIAN POLICE IN TIMOR LESTE LOOKED UPON HIGHLY
From Shahrullizan Rusli
DILI (Timor Leste), Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian police serving under
the United Nations' force here are looked upon highly not only by the people but
also by other police forces, Special Operations Force Commander Fuad Abu
Zarim said.
He said that the Malaysian police stationed at the Malaysia Formed Police
Unit (MAL-FPU) camp in Inap Comoro, here, had not encountered any problems with
the local people.
He said that the Timor Leste people were also cordial towards members of the
Malaysian force who maintained a high integrity and adapted themselves well to
the local customs.
Earlier when handing over Aidilfitri goodies to the Malaysian police at the
camp, he said, the force had never forgotten its members who had to serve in
foreign land during the Aidilfitri.
"You have served the country well," he said.
There are 138 Malaysian policemen serving under the MAL-FPU and another 73
under the Malaysian United Nations Police (MAL-UNPOL).
Meanwhile, MAL-FPU head, Chief Insp Mohd Yusoff Tahir told reporters this
was his first Ramadan abroad.
"Here we break the fast at 6.40pm local time (about 5.40pm Malaysian time).
We cook our own food, but without the cakes," he said.
The MAL-FPU was deployed here on April 7 and would end their duties on Oct
30.
