Garifulla Kurmangaliyev’s 100th anniversary
Almaty, September 18, 2009, Khabar - The centenary of the people’s artiste of Kazakhstan and laureate of the State prize Garifulla Kurmangaliyev’s birth has been celebrated in the Western Kazakhstan region. A republic-wide competition of singers was held, the district children’s music school and one of the central streets of Uralsk were named after him and a monument was established in loving memory of the musician.
A great number of female admirers of the singer’s talent said that Garifulla sang songs specifically about them. In 1947 he transferred 100 of folk songs collected and set to music by him to the possession of the Academy of Science.
Tuyakbay Rysbekov, rector of Makhambet Utemisov University:
- He founded his own school where remarkable singers were trained. Apart from that, he is considered to be the successor of a famous Kazakh singer Muhit’s art.
Kazhybek Bekbosynov, professor, people’s artiste of Kazakhstan:
- He used to tell us when he was our teacher that we should serve the nation as its slave and it will raise us like kings. Today you can see that people have organized a great holiday in his honour so it’s the homage to our teacher’s services.
