Kazakh National University graduates meet in Almaty
Almaty, September 18, 2009, Khabar - A ceremonial meeting devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Kazakh National University has taken place in Almaty. Over this period, the educational institution has trained over 120 thousand specialists. Former graduates of the university including prominent politicians, public figures, scientists, diplomats, journalists all gathered at the university on such an occasion.
Bakytzhan Zhumagulov, rector, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University:
- We are proud to see many graduates who graduated from here many decades ago. They set the level of educational up high. I am happy to see the traditions started by you, my dear colleagues, are followed today.
Former graduates also handed student’s IDs to fresh students as well as the university golden key as a symbolic relay to the next generation.
Kuanysh Sultanov, Kazakhstan Senator:
- I still remember what we were taught when we were young. Today, we all feel something wonderful as we have been meeting with the youth and interesting people. Today, we can see famous intellectuals here.
Former gradates recalled their student life with its routine and dormitories. Member of Parliament, Zagipa Baliyeva, said she met her future husband at this very university. She and her husband still remember the way they would meet on dates at the ground floor.

- When our little secret was uncovered, the university administration took measures but we still dated and fell in love.
The encyclopedia called “Our Elite” about 225 KNU gradates who made a political, economical and cultural contribution to the development of Kazakhstan was issued ahead of the 75th anniversary.
