Kazakhstan to deliver additionally 500 MWt of electricity to RF -

ASTANA, September 17 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan will deliver
additionally 50 megawatt of electricity to Russia due to an accident at
the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant, Kazakhstani President Nursultan
Nazarbayev said in Ekibastuz on Thursday during the commissioning of a
1,100-kilometre high-voltage electric transmission line that will link the
country's North and South.
"We will transmit electricity. After the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP
accident we should be ready to transmit about 500 megawatt of electricity
to Russia," the head of state said, adding, "We can guarantee parallel
path flows. Therefore, the task that faces us is colossal."
According to the president, the infrastructure project "North-South of
Kazakhstan" will guarantee a two-fold increase of electricity deliveries
to the central and southern territories of the country and will make it
possible to resolve the electricity shortage problem in several regions of
the republic.
"This is very important, necessary and colossal project. There are no
such facilities in the territory of the post-Soviet space," Nazarbayev
said, stressing, "Construction of such facilities is of special
significance for all of us."
"Southern regions of Kazakhstan depend on the supplies of electricity
from our neighbours. From now on, they will receive electricity produced
in our country. We became fully independent on other suppliers of
electricity," the president said.
