PRESIDENT TO SELECT ACTING KPK CHIEF ON HIS OWN JUDGMENT
Jakarta, Sept 18 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will choose an acting Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief on his own judgment without forming a special team for inputs.
Law and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta, after a meeting to discuss preparation of a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) on the appointment of a KPK chief at the presidential office here on Friday, said although no special team would be set up, the President would certainly listen to public aspirations to choose the KPK acting chief.
"If a special team is to be set up, it will take time, but certainly the president will listen to people's aspirations, see the results, and the registration," Mattalatta sid.
He said the criteria used by the president to choose the KPK acting chief would at least be in line with the regulations in Law No 30/2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission.
According to the law, the KPK leader should have a law degree, capability in the , and at least 15 years experience in law on economy, finance, or banking.
The candidate KPK chief was also required to have high moral integrity, good reputation, capability, and honesty.
Mattalatta said the related ministers were at present seeking a norm which gives the opportunity and authority to the president to appoint a KPK acting chief until the definitive KPK leader is elected.
According to him, the president did not need to consult the KPK on the need for additional leaders.
"With two persons the KPK can work effectively, because from he Law on KPK, the commission was formed by the president and DPR," he said.
Mattalatta admitted that discussions with the president so far had yet to touch on the names who would be select by the president as KPK acting chief.
Asked if the president would probably appoint KPK former leaders in the first period, Mattalatta said most of them already had new positions.
The president on Friday chaired a meeting to discuss preparations to issue a Perppu which was attended by Mattalatta, Attorney General Hendarman Supanji, and National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri.
