PAK-LD SAEED 2
"We have not received any instructions for his (Saeed's)
detention and the police in Faisalabad too have not contacted
us to arrest him," Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed, Special
Superintendent of Police (Operations) in Lahore, told PTI.
A senior police officer in Faisalabad too said that no
instructions had been received from the government on the
action to be taken regarding the cases filed against Saeed.
Another police officer, who did not want to be
identified, said: "Though Saeed's activities have been closely
monitored by officials of the Special Branch of Punjab Police
since he was freed from house arrest on the orders of the
Lahore High Court (in June), his arrest is not possible
without a green signal from authorities concerned."
During his sermon at the Friday prayers this afternoon,
Saeed reportedly criticised the Pakistan government for toeing
the US line in the war against terrorism and buckling under
pressure from India to take action against the JuD.
The FIRs against Saeed were registered under a provision
of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, which bans persons from
delivering speeches soliciting support for a banned group.
The FIRs registered in the police stations at People's
Colony, Madina Town and Sadar in Faisalabad accuse Saeed and
his aide of inciting people to wage 'jehad' through speeches
they delivered in Faisalabad on August 27 and 28. They have
also been accused of making anti-government comments. (More)
