Services of Maitree Express suspended for four days
New Delhi, Sept 18 (PTI) Services of Kolkata-Dhaka
Maitree Express will remain temporarily suspended till
September 23 in view of the heavy rush during Eid that may
hamper customs and immigration formalities.
"The heavy rush during Eid-Ul-Fitr would have hampered
customs and immigration activities at the Dhaka Cantt Railway
station. Therefore, on the request of Bangladesh Railways, the
government here decided to suspend the service temporarily," a
Railway Ministry official said.
Consequently, the services of the train, which runs four
days a week, would remain cancelled on September 19, 20, 22
and 23. The services will resume from September 26 onwards,
the officials said.
The train was launched in April last year to strengthen
ties between India and Bangladesh. PTI
