SOUTH EAST ASIA CENTRAL BANKS TO MEET IN KL ON LEGAL CHALLENGES SEPT 24-25



KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The South East Asian Central Banks
(SEACEN) Research and Training Centre, Central Bank of Malaysia and the
Institute of Bankers Malaysia (IBBM), are organising a two-day event which will
focus on the legal challenges facing central banks in the region.

The event, Banking and Financial Law School 2009, which is to be held here
from Sept 24-25 will look at issues relating to central banking legislation,
regulation of financial institutions and corporate law.

A statement from Central Bank of Malaysia Saturday said the event will look
at legal resolutions available to regulators in times of crisis as well as the
adequacy of these avenues in light of the prevailing global crisis.

The event themed "Current Challenges in Central Banking - A Legal
Perspective" will see the Governor of BNM and chairman of SEACEN Board of
Governors Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz delivering the keynote address.
