Victorian kidnapper found in Singapore

A 23-year-old convicted kidnapper who failed to appear in court for sentencing last
week has been found in Singapore.
Julian Mathias Buchwald is being extradited and is due to arrive at Melbourne
Airport on Sunday morning, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
"He'll be met by Victoria Police and escorted to the Melbourne Custody Centre," the
spokeswoman said.
Buchwald will be jailed for seven years and nine months for kidnapping his former
girlfriend and holding her captive for eight days in East Gippsland last March.
He was sentenced in absentia on Friday at the Latrobe Valley County Court.
Buchwald was convicted on August 17 of kidnapping and making a false report to police.
His failure to show at court for a pre-sentence hearing last Thursday sparked a
massive police hunt.
Buchwald will be eligible for parole in five years and three months.
