SOME 700 MORE CCTV CAMERAS INSTALLED AT SOEKARNO-HATTA AIRPORT

Tangerang, Sept 19 (ANTARA) - Airport management company PT Angkasa Pura II has installed 700 more CCTV cameras at the domestic and overseas terminals of Soekarno-Hatta airport to monitor the flow of Idul Fitri holiday travelers.

A company spokesman, Hariyanto, said here on Saturday, the cameras had been placed to monitor passengers' activity and the flow of goods at the two terminals.

"We had to increase the number of CCTV cameras because the existing ones are not sufficient to monitor all activities at Soekarno-Hatta international airport," Hariyanto said.

He said there were already a total of 600 CCTV cameras put up at strategic corners of the 1,800-hectare-wide airport but they belonged to other institutions such as the customs and excise service, the National Police Headquarters, immigration, and airline companies.

Hariyanto said of the 600 CCTV cameras that had already been in place for some time, 340 belonged to PT Angkasa Pura II but they were not enough to monitor all activities inside and outside the terminals.

He said the 700 new cameras were installed at the arrival and departure terminals, cargo terminals, and terminal III for Air Asia and Mandala.

In addition, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had also proposed the installation of CCTV cameras in the airport's traffic area which would be connected with the Traffic Management Center (TMC).

Hariyanto said a number of the cameras at the airport had yet to be connected with the owning institutions, and therefore it was necessary to make an integrated monitoring room.

PT Angkasa Pura II was even planning to build a monitoring room near the company's main office at the airport.

According to him, some of the 700 additional cameras would be placed at the airport's entrances, seating and luggage checking area so that holiday travelers would not have to stand in long lines.

But he said one obstacle was that the company did not have enough personnel to monitor all activities through the cameras.
