MALAYSIA TO DEPORT 60 INDONESIANS SOON

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 19 (ANTARA) - The Malaysian government will soon deport 60 Indonesians going home illegally by sea following Idul Fitri, and Malaysian immigration will start working this next week.

"They are currently held in custody at the immigration depots in KLIA and Semenyih, Kajang Selangor. The Malaysian government will help deport these people following Idul Fitri, Amiruddin Pandjaitan, Minister Counsellor at the consular section of the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur said Saturday.

"So, the Malaysian government and immigration would not be following the normal procedures, under which they would be tried and then imprisoned for leaving Malaysia illegally. This, is a Malaysian government assistance. They would be deported soon after the Idul Fitri," Amirudin said after meeting them at the Malaysian marine office in Klang Selangor, Friday afternoon.

Amirudin also denied a Malaysian media report that 60 Indonesians had been rescued by the marine office when their boat was about to go down.

"The truth is that after sailing for one hour, about 7 km from port Klang, the engines of their boat stopped, and they were later saved by fishermen and the marine office. The 60 people on board included the boat's owner, and his two-man crew," Amirudin said.
