Saeed under investigation: Pak
Islamabad, Sep 19 (PTI) Pakistan Saturday said it was
investigating JuD chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, mastermind of
the Mumbai attacks, but indicated that it cannot prosecute him
as the information provided by India was "sketchy".
Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who met
Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal and briefed him
about the probe, also said boats used by 26/11 attackers are
now under Pakistan's custody and has information about 35
terrorist hideouts.
"Hafiz Mohammad Saeed is under investigation," he told
reporters, adding "we want to take the entire investigation to
its logical conclusion."
"The statements of Ajmal Kasab (lone surviving
terrorist) have been provided on Saeed. But according to legal
parameters the court will ask for evidence," he said.
Malik's comments come ahead of the meeting next week
between Foreign Ministers of the two countries in New York on
the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
India has been accusing Pakistan of not acting against
Saeed and other accused despite having provided six dossiers
containing "solid evidence" about their involvement.
Malik claimed "considerable progress" has been made in
the probe into the attack despite "sketchy information" from
India. (MORE) PTI
