Victorian capital Melbourne witnessed most of the
attacks on Indian students in the last few months. Indians
form a major chunk of foreign students studying in Australia
and are considered vital for the country's education sector.

Brumby has insisted that Victoria was still the safest
place in Australia "in terms of our crime rate".

He had last week said Australia's image in India had
been tarnished by the attacks and he wanted to send the
message during his visit that Melbourne was one of the safest
cities in the world to study in. PTI
