Yonhap mobile news available for free on online application store

SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said Monday its
mobile news service for wireless users is now available for free download via an
online applications store.

Yonhap in June launched the service, called the "Yonhap News Phone" to provide a
wide array of news coverage, ranging from politics and sports to entertainment
and business stories, for consumers on the go.
The mobile news service is downloadable at T Store (www.tstore.co.kr), SK
Telecom's mobile open market, which allows users to upload and download
applications for mobile phones.
The Yonhap News Phone has been initially optimized for five of Samsung's
touchphone Haptic models, the SCH-W420, W550, W555, W750 and W777, and will later
be extended to other phones.
The service was the first of its kind in South Korea to bring news to mobile
users directly via standby screens on their cell phones.
The news screen provides one-click access to an assortment of news and related
photographs. Users can also customize the service to select news related to their
interests.
The screen is automatically updated every hour with fresh news or can be updated
whenever a user presses an "update" button.
Future versions of the mobile news service will include weather forecasts, photo
galleries and video coverage as well as an English language option, the company
earlier said.
