THOUSANDS EXCHANGE IDUL FITRI GREETINGS WITH PRESIDENT AT CIKEAS
Bogor, Sept 21 (ANTARA) - Thousands of people gathered in the compound of the private residence of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, for a traditional exchange of Idul Fitri greetings with the head of state.
President Yudhoyono held the "open house" on the second day of the Islamic post-fasting Idul Fitri holiday for community members to exchange Idul Fitri greetings with him.
Immediately after it was opened at 11 am presidential security guards let them come and greet the president, who was flanked by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono.
Among the guests seen lining up to greet the head of state were former defense forces' commander Djoko Suyanto and former army chief of staff Subagyo HS.
Unlike in the year before, the president only opened his house for community members for one hour, from 11 am to 12 noon. Security was boosted with metal detector checking done three times.
A monitor was also been installed at the verandah of the house to check the body temperature of the visitors in anticipation against possible bird flu contamination.
Visitors were not allowed to carry bags when shaking hands with the president.
Among the visitors were blind and disabled people. When shaking hand with Mak Enah (75), a Cikeas resident who suffers a defect on the face, President Yudhoyono asked his staff to check the grandmother's problem. "Please check it and examine it. God willing we will help cure it," he said to his staff.
To reporters Mak Enah said that she had lost her nose and lips after an operation was done on a mole on her nose.
After shaking hands with the president the guests were treated to food and drinks.***1***
