MSIAN LEG OF WORLD PEACE MARCH ON OCT 10
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- A street festival will be held in Bangsar
on Oct 10 to mark the Malaysian leg of the first World March For Peace and
Non-Violence.
"This will be a symbolic march to unite people of all sectors of the
population, who aspire for peace and a better world," Women's Aid Organisation
(WAO) project and administration manager Annie Varghese said when contacted
Tuesday.
The World March will begin in Wellington, New Zealand, on Oct 2, the
anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi´s birth.
"It will end in the Andes Mountains in Argentina on Jan 2, 2010, after
travelling to six continents, 90 countries and 62,137 km in 90 days," she said.
The global event seeks to end wars, dismantle nuclear weapons and stop all
forms of violence, physical, economic, racial, religious, cultural, sexual and
psychological.
The WAO and four other non-government organisations -- NurSalam, Voice of
the Children, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Selangor
and World Without Wars -- and restaurant group Maxim Image are supporting the
street festival.
