First TurkPA session

Bku, October 01, 2009, Khabar - The first session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries has been held in Baku. This organization was created on the initiative of the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. According to the Baku declaration, the TurkPA will be contributing to the development of inter-state dialogue with the help of parliamentary diplomacy and make efforts to turn the region into an area of security and prosperity. Ramin Gasanov, the head of the youth organization of the “Eni Azerbaijan” party has been elected as the assembly’s secretary general. An association of parliamentary journalists will be operating as part of the TurkPA as well. It was settled that the next session will be held in 2010 in Astana. The speaker of the Majilis of the Kazakh parliament Ural Mukhamedzhanov noted in his opening speech that a great step forward on the track of the Turkic-speaking countries’ integration has been made with the establishment of this assembly.

- Baku has witnessed a historical event today. The first parliamentary session of Turkic-speaking countries including delegations from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Kazakhstan has taken place here. We believe that we’ve made a huge step forward on the track of further intensification of economic, social, cultural and political cooperation between our countries.
