Nursultan Nazarbayev’s working trip to the Atyrau region began
Atyrau, October 01, 2009, Khabar - The President has arrived to the oil capital of Kazakhstan in the afternoon. Right after his arrival, the head of state visited one of the largest construction sites of the republic and took part in the opening of an extensively repaired road which connects the area with the Mangystau region. The Atyrau region is area of grand projects and global crisis doesn’t impede their realization. The largest project site of the region and the whole of Kazakhstan is situated 40 kilometres away from the oil capital. A complex hydrocarbon treatment plant is being built here. 20 thousand workers and hundreds of units of heavy equipment are involved in the construction. The project’s implementation started in 2005 with the official laying of the foundation stone featuring the participation of Nursultan Nazarbayev. There was just empty steppe at that time and now this place has turned into an industrial town in its own right.

- This project and region play the important role for the whole Kazakhstani people and I think this project is the project of the century.

- Many our specialists received job here. We were trained and we got the high qualification and now we earn much money.
This complex is named as “Bolashak” according to the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev. He decided to entitle it in this way, because future of Kazakhstani economy is inseparably linked with this project.

- It is very perspective project because everything is settled here, in money and social sphere. That’s why I think workers arrive here from the whole multinational Kazakhstan and they receive money and well-being of people increases.
Almost four billion US dollars has been invested in this oil and gas giant. This is one of the key construction units of the Kashagan project where hydrocarbons will be cleaned of all sorts of contaminants and prepared for export transportation: 22,5 million tons of oil and over 6 billion of cubic meters of gas per year.
Kalamkas Sagymbaikyzy, employee of department of technical safety:
- This project involves most of our companies and we get a unique expereicne at such high-tech productions.
This is a unique artificial island in the open sea. It was built during several years and is considered to be one of the component parts of the Kashagan project. Oil and gas will be delivered to the reprocessing facilities from here.

- This project changes the Atyrau region very much as it outputs 450 000 barrels of oil per day. So, it influences economy very much.
Kashagan is being referred to as an enormous treasure of Kazakhstan. It is the biggest oil and gas field in the world to have been discovered during the last thirty years. There are about six billion tons of oil and one trillion cubic metres of gas. However, it is not that easy to extract. The work is aggravated by heavy geological conditions including the shelf zone, large depths, strong formation pressure and a high content of hydrogen disulfide. At the same time, the oil from this field is of high quality. Kazakhstan invited leading companies in this area to take part in the reserve development. An international consortium was created in this respect. Thanks to this project, Kazakhstan should enter the list of the leading oil suppliers in the world.

- My salary is high and I know I will be not jobless. Two my children study at the prestigious Universities. And at the same time I have enough money for all necessary things.
This year over 500 billion tenge was allocated for the development of Atyrau region, it is 50% more than last year. 20 000 new work places were opened and life quality of people increased noticeably.
Boris Matveyev, veteran of World War II:
- You can see that now war veteran doesn’t need anything. My pension is enough even to help my grandchildren. All this is due to our prosperity.
Nurbek Auezkhanuly, imam:
- 29 mosques had already been constructed in Atyrau region and three more are built. We see the spiritual raise due to the support of the state.
Zhauken Kushenov, resident of Atyrau:
- 175 young teachers arrived to our region this year to work in villages. And all of them received flats and 25 doctors had recently celebrated house warming party in villages. Our personnel potential strengthens due to this.
Today, many people are dreaming of living and working in the Atyrau region. The share of foreign specialists is gradually reducing and the Kazakh staff is coming up to take their place. Kazakhstani specialists replace them. For example, Kuralai Istenova graduated from KIMEP and began working here two years ago just after graduation. She is very glad with her moving to Atyrau and she says she constantly increases her qualification.
The Atyrau region is believed to be the richest region of Kazakhstan, thus huge volumes of assets are being invested in its development. The development of the Northern Caspian Shelf is the largest project and it is already being referred to as the “project of the 21st century”. Its cost exceeds 136 billion US dollars. Considerable amounts of money are used not only for exploration works and oil extraction. The region’s infrastructure is being developed at a stepped-up pace as well. In particular, the road from Atyrau to Aktau has been extensively repaired.

- Earlier this road was very bad and it was difficult to drive cars on it. Now everything had changed and improved.

- This road is very important for our economy. Atyrau and Mangistau regions closely cooperate and we often go to Aktau. We are very glad the road will be safer and shorter from now on.

- Road is the basis of life and currently the roads are repaired in Atyrau region according to “Road Map” program. They are repaired even in remote villages. It is a great happiness for us.
Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the opening of the re-constructed motorway. The head of state also gave a start to a new infrastructural project – the construction of a railway from the Uzen station to the border of Turkmenistan during a television link-up here as well. This is a new transport corridor in the Iranian direction. On October 1, the head of the state plans to examine several new objects in Atyrau.
