Yonhap News begins French-language service

SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's wire service Yonhap News Agency will
launch a French-language news service beginning Oct. 5, aiming to enhance mutual
understanding between Korea and France.
Through its new French-language Web site (http://french.yonhapnews.co.kr), Yonhap
will provide real-time news stories, photographs and video clips about Korea in
French. The service is free of charge.
Yonhap currently provides news in five other foreign languages -- English,
Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Arabic.
Yonhap, which means "consolidated" in Korean, was established in 1980 and is the
only Korean wire service that works with non-Korean news agencies. In 2002, it
also signed a services-exchange agreement with the Korean Central News Agency of
North Korea.
