ETISALAT LOWERS CALL RATES TO INDONESIA, PHILIPPINES

BY MUIN ABDUL MAJID

DUBAI, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based
telecommunications provider, Etisalat, has decided to reduce its call rates to
disaster-hit Indonesia and Philippines.

Beginning tomorrow till Oct 8, customers can call Philippines and
Indonesia from their fixed lines and mobiles at a reduced rate of 99 fils per
minute.

The SMS rates have also been reduced to 30 fils per SMS.

Etisalat vice-president for consumer marketing Khalifa Al Shamsi said the
company empathised with the Filipino and Indonesian communities in the UAE who
must have been distressed by the natural calamity that had struck the two
Southeast Asian nations.

" We understand the dire need of our customers to reach out to their family
and loved ones to ensure their safety and well-being, and hence, are reducing
our call and SMS rates to Philippines and Indonesia," he said in a statement.

The Philippines is reeling in the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana while
Indonesia has been jolted by two powerful earthquakes.
