MALAYSIAN MINISTER STARTS FACEBOOK PAGE
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Transport Minister president Ong
Tee Keat has opened a Facebook account to invite the public to communicate with
him, via the social networking page.
His personal page in Facebook will also serve to provide a more interactive
platform while encouraging transparent public discourse and open communication
between the transport minister and the public.
A statement from his secretariat here Friday, said that Facebook would also
enable him to reach a wider audience while still keeping abreast on comments,
feedback and suggestions posted on his page, despite his hectic schedule.
It said Ong's foray into social networking was a natural next step in his
commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability.
Ong also has his own blog www.ongteekeat.net.
The Pandan member of parliament said he took his responsibilities as an
elected
representative seriously and also intended to uphold his promises to the people
who had elected him.
He added that the concept of transparency and accountability were not mere
rhetorics to him.
"Through Facebook, I will be able to serve to the best of my ability and one
of the most important ways to deliver my promises to Malaysians is to ensure
that everyone has direct access to me.
"With that entrenched in my mind, I will make every attempt to check my
Facebook page as often as possible and take note of what has been posted while
also sharing my own activities, thoughts and opinions," said Ong.
